Tulane’s Lorenzo Doss is the first player to be ejected for targeting

Lorenzo Doss is about to go down in trivia history. The cornerback for the Tulane Green Wave has officially become the first player to be ejected for “targeting” an opponent. Doss was tossed after delivering a hit to the quarterback for Jackson State (Clayton Moore).

Oh boy. Here we go.

The controversial new rule regarding targeting has been frequently discussed during the offseason by players and coaches from all across the nation. It’ll be interesting to see how vicious Doss’ hit truly was when the footage makes its way onto the Internet.

Doss was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team in 2012 after intercepting five passes. The young corner has drawn rave reviews from coach Curtis Johnson during training camp:

He’s been amazing all camp. You don’t see him, you don’t say nothing to him. I’m not yelling at him like last year. I think he’s having an outstanding camp. He had two interceptions today and probably should have had a third one (The Times-Picayune).

Though being ejected obviously wasn’t desirable, at least Doss will have a story to bore all his fidgety grandchildren with at family reunions in fifty years.
