During the first College Gameday broadcast of the 2013 season we were treated to a feature on Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron. The feature by Tom Rinaldi dives into the relationship between Alabama’s National Title winning quarterback and a special young Crimson Tide fan suffering from leukemia, Starla Chapman.

“We’ve both been through tough times,” McCarron explains. “The doctors both told our families we were supposed to die. To me, we’re both miracles.”

They met when A.J. McCarron was delivering gifts at a hospital during the Christmas season, the same hospital he was in when he was in a bad jet ski accident. McCarron nearly died in the accident.

On that Christmas Eve visit to the hospital he met Starla. The girl had a special slogan to help her cope with her illness, “just trust.” They even had wrist bands, and Starla gave McCarron a quarterback a gift, one of those rubber wristband that said “Team Starla” and “#JustTrust.”

A.J. promised to wear it in the National Championship game, and he followed through.

The video is called “Just Trust,” watch it below:
