Justin Upton is still not in the lineup today for the Atlanta Braves after being hit in the hand the other night against the Cleveland Indians.
Upton was thought to be doing better today but that just isn’t the case for this Upton brother. He was batting 2 for 2 with a run scored going into the fifth inning against the Indians until catcher Yan Gomes set up inside and Ubaldo Jimenez delivered a fastball that hit Upton on the left hand.
Jimenez is a hard thrower, so it’s a bit of surprise that X-rays on Justin’s hand came back negative. Joey Terdoslavich moved from first base to left field to fill in for him. There are no broken bones or structural damage which means no trip to the disabled list for Justin.
Which is a good thing, considering the Atlanta Braves are currently running away with the division being 14 games ahead of the Washington Nationals in the National League East.
I’m sure they would like to extend that gap with a healthy Upton. He should be back in their lineup either tomorrow or Monday.
For right now, Ellior Johnson is starting in left field.
