The Texas Rangers are finding out that Yu Darvish was worth all the money they paid to acquire him in the offseason. He has been a solid ace for a club that seemed to have aces on a one-year basis only. Routinely he takes games into no hit bids before losing them late, most recently last night and twice this season against the Houston Astros.

Darvish has a fastball he uses fairly regularly that registers in the mid to high 90s on the radar gun. Minnesota Twin’s Trevor Plouffe might have been expecting that pitch when he swung at this ball. He’s already well into the final parts of his swing before the ball even gets to the plate.

Darvish through a 61 mile per hour curve ball on that play that had Plouffe fooled. It just shows his versatility and why everyone in Texas is so thrilled with his play. You could make the argument that Darvish is the league’s best pitcher right now.

He has the American League’s second best ERA and the fifth best in all of baseball. Darvish has thrown more strike outs than anyone this season, in fact 35 more than the second place guy.
