This referee must have not spent much time training ahead of the season. His backpedal looks a little rusty. Wisconsin running back James White was shedding a tackler en route to a 51-yard touchdown run and the referee was trying to keep up with the play.
It looks he either was backpedaling and tripped or was trying to switch around from backpedal to running forward when he tripped himself up. Nevertheless who doesn’t love a good fall.
Here is another angle if you can’t get enough of it.
Another possibility might have been that he was thinking White was headed out of bounds and was trying to get out of the way.
Nevertheless Wisconsin has ran all over U-Mass in this game. As of this post they have three different running backs with over a 100 yards rushing, and 4 different backs with touchdowns. The team as whole has 392 yards rushing including touchdown runs of 51 and 70 yards.
It’s been an easy day for Joel Stave who has 205 yards through the air so far with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception, plus another touchdown on the ground.
