Teemu Selanne returning for final NHL season

After an off-season filled with questions surrounding the future of Teemu Selanne, the 43 year old veteran has decided he’ll play one more season in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks. This will be Selanne’s 21st season in the NHL after he agreed on a one-year $2 million deal with the Ducks.

Selanne has spent 14 seasons with the Ducks and is just six goals away from 10th place amongst all-time leading NHL scorers with 675 goals. Last season saw a bit of a drop in Selanne’s production as he played in 46 games and recorded just 12 goals and 24 points, but what Selanne lacks in goal scoring he makes up for in speed and skill.

Teemu Selanne announced his return via a funny viral youtube video of him golfing and vows that this will be his last NHL season.

“I’m coming back. Yeah, but this is it. This is my final one” ~Teemu Selanne

By returning to the NHL, the Finish veteran will now have a chance to play for the Finish Olympic team at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. He has worn the blue and white of team Finland at three different Olympic’s, taking home a silver and two bronze medals. Can he finally take home the gold in 2014?

Through 21 NHL seasons with the Winnipeg Jets, San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks, Selanne has recorded 1,430 points and currently sits 11th amongst all time leading goal scorers.
