The USC Trojans kicked off the season against Hawaii with co-starters at quarterback, but now the team has decided on one man to take the starting job under center. The USC offense struggled in the season opener, so hopefully when Cody Kessler or Max Wittek got all of the snaps there will be a change in momentum.
Head coach Lane Kiffin let everyone know that he has chosen the No. 1 quarterback, but in typical Lane Kiffin fashion, he was coy and would not make the announcement to the media.
“You guys will see on Saturday who he is,” Kiffin said during a Sunday press conference, according to College Football Talk.
When you review the game film from Saturday’s game, the Trojans offense looked more like what we are used to seeing when Wittek was under center, so his stronger arm could be the factor that earns him the job.
On top of the difference in arm talent, Wittek has starting experience from a season ago when he filled in for an injured Matt Barkley. That added experience should help Wittek in the starting role and allow the Trojans offense to get where we expect to see it.
