Milwaukee Brewers acquire Michael Blazek from St. Louis Cardinals

Yesterday, the St. Louis Cardinals acquired former closer John Axford from the Milwaukee Brewers, though, we weren’t informed of what was being sent the Brewers way, rather, just given the ever-famous PTBNL (player to be named later).

That player was named today and by all indications, it won’t be one St. Louis Cardinal fans are happy with.

Reportedly, the Cardinals will send relatively highly touted arm Michael Blazek to the Brewers in exchange for Axford.

Per Tom Haudricourt:

RHP Michael Blazek is indeed player to be named for #Brewers in John Axford trade.

Blazek, who appeared in eleven games with the Cardinals this season struggled during his short stint in the Big Show, but blew away Minor League hitters, posting an impressive 1.97 ERA between Double and Triple-A.

The 24-year-old Blazek was one of the better pitching prospects in the Cardinals organization, though, ripe with talent, apparently he was expendable to the Cardinals for immediate bullpen help.

Somewhat of a risky move for the Cardinals but a solid grab for the division rival Brewers.

They had to give away someone, There is a BIG difference between Minor League hitters in AA & AAA ball over Major League hitters. This move does not bother me. They are overwhelmed with arms down there. If Motte is not ready “and there is that likely hood” it might be good to have Axford in the pen next year. At the rate these kids are moving threw the origination they will have even more next year that are ready..
