Canada takes down Brazil at FIBA Championship

Canada has mostly been known for their world class hockey players, but lately their basketball players are garnering more and more attention. Canada defeated Brazil 91-62 at the Fiba Americas Championship on Sunday night.

Leading the way for Canada was Cory Joseph who put up 28 points and added nine rebounds in the win.

“He’s got a great mix going right now of finding other guys and contributing in points by himself.” ~ Coach Jay Triano

Team Canada has just three players from the NBA on their roster for this tournament; San Antonio Spurs Cory Joseph, Miami Heat Joel Anthony and Cleveland Cavaliers Tristan Thompson. Canada will have Monday off before they square off against Uruguay on Tuesday.

“Three games in three days, I was really pleased with the energy level that we had. “I think we matched if not had a better energy level than Brazil, who had a day off yesterday. ~ Triano

Canada is looking for a big tournament in order to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Spain and taking down a tough Brazil team is a good sign for the Canadians.
