Craig James fired from Fox Sports Southwest after 1 show

Remember Craig James, the ESPN analyst who went toe-to-toe with Texas Tech and then head coach Mike Leach over his son being locked in a closet? Well after his time at ESPN came to an end he was given a second shot at broadcasting on Fox Sports Southwest. The head executives didn’t like the decision to hire him at the regional network and promptly canned him.

Richard Deitsch has the details:

Fox Sports executives were not happy with the hire by the regional network, according to sources, and the hire had not been fully vetted at the highest levels of Fox Sports management. A formal agreement had not been finalized, even though James appeared on FSS on Saturday night. “Craig James will not be making any further appearances on Fox Sports Southwest’s football coverage this season,” said a Fox Sports spokesperson, when asked for a comment.

James popularity took a huge hit from the Texas Tech scandal. He followed that up with a  Senate campaign in Texas were his popularity took another after saying that gay people will “answer to the Lord for their actions.”
