For a rookie pitcher facing off against a team that is batting .302 and boasts the MLB’s hottest hitter in Miguel Cabrera is no easy task. But Cleveland Indian’s rookie Danny Salazar didn’t let the Detroit Tigers’ hot hitting faze him as he went 6 scoreless innings in a 4-0 win over the Tigers.

Salazar has zero runs or walks with 5 strikeouts through his 6 innings of work and best of all he only threw 77 pitches in the no decision.

"“He used his off speed stuff more, which I was kind of surprised by. It looked to me like he used his off speed pitches more than he did the first start against us. He’s very talented” ~ Tigers Manager Jim Leyland"

In Salazar’s last three starts he had allowed three runs in 15 and 1/3 innings and has made an impression on his teammates already.

"“The kid’s got good stuff, It’s impressive to watch him go out there every fifth day and watch him continue to get better. It’s almost scary watching him get better. He’s got unbelievable stuff.” ~ Mike Aviles."

Mike Aviles helped cap off the day with his his grandslam in the ninth inning which gave the Indians the win over the Tigers. Salazar has a 3.00 ERA with a 1-2 record but most impressive is his 37 strikeouts in just 33 innings. The Indians are limiting his pitches after elbow surgery in 2010 to just 90 a game but are already looking forward to next season when he can go deeper into games.
