Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil to join Arsenal

German national Mesut Ozil is set to join Arsenal from Real Madrid for a reported £42.5 million. That would make him the most expensive German footballer of all time. Reports indicate that that Ozil would make around 7 million a year for 5 years. Bild has reported that they’ve agreed to a verbal deal which has yet to be signed and will be made official at 4.30pm BST.

Mesut Ozil is still relatively young, just 25 years-old. Ozil is currently in Germany on international duty ahead of this weekend’s World Cup qualifying matches.

Somewhere Piers Morgan is thrilled that Arsene Wenger finally made a move in the transfer window.

Arsenal are in talks to acquire striker Demba Ba via a loan from Chelsea. Arsenal had pursued Liverpool striked Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain of Real Madrid.

This Ozil signing will break the club-record for signing when they paid £15m to Zenit St Petersburg for Andrey Arshavin in 2009. Arsenal hasn’t really made any other notable moves this window and only signed two other players: striker Yaya Sanogo, 20, and midfielder Mathieu Flamini, 29, arriving on free transfers.

Ozil would be a huge upgrade for Arsenal and send the message that they’re ready to compete in the English Premier League.
