Earlier today, the San Francisco 49ers signed wide receiver Chris Harper, who they plucked off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

The move made sense, considering the Niners’ perceived issues at wide receiver.

However, apparently, the 49ers have no interest in keeping Harper at wide receiver, this according to team insider Matt Maiocco who suggested that the 49ers are moving him to tight end.

Per Maiocco:

"WR Chris Harper, actually might not be a WR after all. I’m moving him to TE on that roster I just posted a little while ago."

Harper’s actually a very talented blocker though has been known to catch a serious case of stone hands from time to time, resulting in his release from the Seahawks.

Still, as the 123rd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft (fourth round), the 49ers figured Harper was worth the experiment.

San Francisco, despite their  issues with wide receiver depth actually had some very solid preseason performances, so they might be feeling a bit more comfortable going into the season with their current core resulting in Harper being moved to tight end.
