That noise you just heard was a collective bunch of San Francisco 49er fans letting out a big sigh after finding out their team traded linebacker Cam Johnson to the Indianapolis Colts this morning.

Per Matt Maiocco:

Johnson, a seventh round pick out of Virginia in 2012 became somewhat of a fan favorite in recent weeks after seemingly finding himself on the right end of a handful of preseason plays. However, needing roster space and being stacked with one of the best (if not the best) linebacker cores in the NFL, the 49ers decided to cut bait.

It’s expected that Dan Skuta will take over any duties Johnson will leave behind.

There’s no word on what type of pick San Francisco will be receiving at this current moment.

As for the Colts, Johnson shouldn’t have much trouble making the roster, especially given his high motor. He’ll likely fill in as another pass rusher behind Robert Mathis, Erik Walden and rookie Bjoern Werner, though he could take over Werner’s spot potentially.
