Martin was injured in the Bucs August 16th preseason loss to the New England Patriots when his helmet was hit by a defender’s knee. He did not play in the final two preseason contests for Tampa Bay but returned to practice on August 19th.
The second year running back out of Boise State finished with 1,454 yards—fifth most in the NFL—and 11 touchdowns for Buccaneers in his rookie season. Tampa Bay has some depth behind Martin, including Peyton Hillis and rookie Mike James, but none offer the talent and power Martin possesses.
