The reigning MVP and triple crown winner, Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera, has missed the last three games because of an abdomen problem.
Early Tuesday afternoon, Cabrera took batting practice.
“He was in good spirits today, and I think he’s feeling much, much better to be honest with you,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. “I’m just waiting for the clearance from Miguel and the medical team. When I get that, I’ll put him back in there.”
Later in the afternoon, Maureen Mullen of Comcast Sports Net New England, reported Cabrera would be back in the lineup when the Tigers take on the Boston Red Sox Tuesday night.
Cabrera is having an even better season in 2013 than he did in 2012. He’s batting .358, has an on base percentage of .449 and is slugging .681. He has 43 home runs and 130 RBI.
The 81-57 Tigers will send Max Scherzer (19-1, 2.90 ERA) to the hill and the 82-57 Red Sox will counter with veteran Jon Lester (12-8, 3.99 ERA). First pitch from Fenway Park is scheduled for 7:10 pm EST and the game will be on MLB Network (regional coverage).
