The Pittsburgh Steelers already are having woes at the tight end position. Heath Miller is coming off of a torn ACL suffered last year, and former Chicago Bears TE Matt Spaeth was signed this offseason to be a temporary fill-in for miller during the beginning of this season.

Plans have changed, and after Spaeth suffered a Lisfranc foot injury during training camp, and the team placed him on the special injured reserve/designated-to-return list today.

Spaeth already had surgery on his foot to repair the Lisfranc injury, can begin practicing six weeks from now if he’s ready. He can come off IR as soon as eight weeks from now. Once he starts practicing, the Steelers will have 21 days to decide whether to add him to their 53-man roster or keep him on injured reserve.
