The Dallas Cowboys’ pursuit of offensive lineman Brian Waters had been widely publicized. The Cowboys have the need for a player like Waters on their line because of the retirement of Brandon Moore and Waters is still looking for a job.

A few weeks ago Cowboys executive vice president and COO Stephen Jones told John Machota of the Dallas Morning News the Cowboys had “kind of moved on from there for the time being” but wouldn’t “rule anything out.”

According to Cowboys play-by-play man Brad Sham, Waters will be signing with the Cowboys after all.

Albert Breer of NFL.com confirmed the news.

Waters, who went undrafted out of North Texas and made his NFL debut for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2000, has been named to the Pro Bowl six times. He was with the Chiefs until 2010. In 2011, he joined the New England Patriots just before the season started and wound up starting every game at right guard. He was voted as a starter in the Pro Bowl and even got to play in Super Bowl XLVI.

The Patriots wanted Waters back in 2012, but he wanted to play for a team closer to his family in Texas. When the Patriots refused, Waters instead sat out the 2012 season before finally being released in April.
