UFC lightweight rankings: Gilbert Melendez falls, Benson Henderson becomes top challenger

Anthony Pettis took home the UFC lightweight championship this past weekend at UFC 164 in his hometown of Milwaukee. As a result of Pettis’ win, former champion Benson Henderson dropped down to No. 1 challenger status and former top contender Gilbert Melendez dropped down an additional spot.

Other than the adjustments at the top of the 155 pound ladder, there were no changes.

It is likely that TJ Grant will be the next man to get a crack at the title after he returns to 100 percent, but there are still plenty of top contenders at lightweight who can present an intriguing challenge to the new champion.

This is about to get real fun at 155. We can’t wait to see what match ups come next.

Here are the updated rankings:

Champion: Anthony Pettis

1. Benson Henderson (lost title)

2. Gilbert Melendez (down one)

3. TJ Grant

4. Josh Thomson

5. Gray Maynard

6. Rafael Dos Anjos

7. Nate Diaz

8. Jim Miller

9. Donald Cerrone

10. Pat Healy
