Former NBA star and world diplomat Dennis Rodman is heading back to North Korea again to meet with his buddy Kim Jong-un. Rodman and Kim are an unusual pair and apparently good friends, but this trip will be to try to secure the release of Kenneth Bae, who is a US citizen that is being forced to serve a 15-year term in North Korea for allegedly committing “hostile acts to bring down its government”.
If Rodman can get in the head of his good pal, Bae could be pardoned.
As an added bonus, Rodman is looking to start up a Korean basketball league.
“I’m not going to North Korea to discuss freeing Kenneth Bae,” Rodman said, via The Guardian. “I’m just going there on another basketball diplomacy tour.
“I’m just trying to go over there to meet my friend Kim, the marshal. Try to start a basketball league over there, something like that.”
It is a strange world that we live in when Dennis Rodman is associated with a diplomacy tour, but Rodman has never been one to shy away from participating in unusual acts. It’s just hard to imagine the man who always dyed his hair wild colors and once wore a wedding dress is traveling the world as an international negotiator.
