Greg McElroy added to Cincinnati Bengals practice squad
By Josh Sanchez
Greg McElroy may have lucked out when he was released by the New York Jets last week and now that he is out of that mess he already has a new gig. It was announced on Wednesday that the Cincinnati Bengals have signed McElroy to the team’s practice squad where he will be helping the team prepare each week for their upcoming opponents.
McElroy will provide a solid safety net for the Bengals if something were to happen to their top two signal callers — Andy Dalton and Josh Johnson — so it’s great to see him getting a real opportunity to improve and stay in the NFL mix.
The Cincinnati Bengals also announced today that wide receiver Andrew Hawkins would be placed on the injured reserve list with designation to return. Hawkins will be eligible to return to the club after Week 8 of the regular season. Just a year ago, Hawkins broke out by hauling in 51 passes for 533 yards and four touchdowns in 2012.
Cincinnati continued to make moves on Wednesday by re-signing of offensive lineman Dennis Roland, who has had thirty starts for the team over the past five seasons.
