There are already plenty of people that think NASCAR is brutal to watch and a bit boring at times, but now it has taken those claims to an entirely new level by adding Gretchen Wilson to the ESPN broadcasts. Lord, help us all.
Apparently Wilson will be featured in video teasers for 10 races throughout the year and viewers will be subject to listening to her music throughout the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup on ESPN.
“Just as NASCAR appeals to a great cross-section of American people, the same can be said for Gretchen Wilson’s blend of song and attitude that has made her an icon of the music industry for the past decade,” said Rich Feinberg, ESPN vice president, motorsports, production in a statement released on Wednesday. “We look forward to showcasing her music and personality during the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.”
We aren’t sure what great cross-section of American people Feinberg is referring to, but the unwatchability factor of the Chase just spiked through the roof.
Hopefully for ESPN, the NASCAR die-hards won’t be turned off by the addition of a musician that is trying to remain relevant. You think they could have at least gone with someone like Faith Hill if they wanted a country star.
