San Francisco 49ers’ cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha was held back for limited practice on Wednesday, according to multiple 49ers beat writers. The team later identified the reason as a collarbone injury.

The veteran Asomugha has played well for San Francisco in the preseason and was expected to get the No. 3 cornerback slot ahead of Tramaine Brock. Carlos Rogers and Chris Culliver hold down the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, but the No. 3 spot sees a lot of work in nickle and dime packages. Asomuagha signed a one year contract with the 49ers this offseason.
The 49ers open their season on Sunday in San Francisco against the Green Bay Packers.
