The co-main event at UFC Fight Night 28 featured an important match up in the middleweight division between Yushin Okami and Jacare Souza. Both men were comfortably considered among the top in their weight class and it set up an intriguing fight.
The two fighters immediately took the center of the octagon, with Jacare appearing to time Okami while he waited for a takedown attempt. Unfortunately, the first minute of the fight was simply both men throwing feints before Jacare Souza landed a huge right that hurt the former title contender.
With Okami hurt, Jacare landed a flurry of punches up against the cage, but Okami stayed composed and was eventually able to get himself out of danger.
If Jacare was a more accomplished striker, you would have to believe that the fight would have been over.
After the two men were exchanging punches on their feet, Jacare landed a giant overhand right that caught Okami and temporarily knocked him out. Okami recovered quickly before the referee was able to jump in, but Jacare was relentless and followed up the flash knockdown with some powerful right hands to score the win via TKO stoppage with his ground-and-pount.
