In the most shocking sports news of the day, Andy Murray’s reign as US Open champion is over.

Murray claimed his first Grand Slam when he won at Flushing Meadows last year, but couldn’t make it out of the quarterfinals this year. Stanislas Wawrinka defeated Murray, who won Wimbledon in July, in three straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.

It was a very frustrating match from the get-go for Murray. In the first set, Murray made 15 unforced errors and smashed his racket into the court. Murray’s frustration continued throughout the match as Wawrinka made surprisingly quick work of Murray.

Wawrinka will now face the winner of the match between top seeded Novak Djokovic and 21st seeded Mikhail Youzhny for a spot in the finals. On the other side, 8th seeded Richard Gasquet will take on 2nd seeded Rafael Nadal after knocking off 4th seeded David Ferrer.

The last time Murray was out this early in the US Open? 2010 when Wawrinka knocked Murray out in third round.
