Kevin Garnett would have retired if he was traded to Brooklyn Nets without Paul Pierce

The Brooklyn Nets’ interest in Kevin Garnett has been well documented. Even without the addition of Paul Pierce, the Nets were interested in KG’s services. He apparently wasn’t overly thrilled about the prospect of playing with the Nets though, at least not without longtime teammate Paul Pierce.

Pierce of course was sent to the Nets alongside Garnett, but KG recently told Sina Sports that had he been traded to the Nets (or anybody, for that matter, possibly outside of the Los Angeles Clippers) he would have retired:

Moderator: Can you say if the transaction object is only you, no Pierce, you would choose to reject it?
Garnett: I would refuse, if I was traded away, I would choose to retire, without a doubt, I would choose a direct retired.

Of course, Garnett is known to be a bit dramatic and overly emotional, so it’s hard to know if he’s just blowing smoke. Either way, he’s in Brooklyn, with Pierce and the Nets should be battling for a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals this season given their impressive roster.
