Gomez was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Tuesday despite putting up some great numbers at the Triple-A level. He hit 29 home runs and drove in 73 RBI’s with an OPS of .843 in 110 games this summer.
While this may be Toronto’s trash, could most likely turn out to be Washington’s treasure. There were talks of switching Ryan Zimmerman from third base to first because of the struggles he has had this season. So this could possibly have a part in this move if the Nationals do in fact move Zimmerman across the diamond.
The 28 year old right handed hitter he has 150 home runs in the minor leagues since 2007. He made his major league debut for the Boston Red Sox in 2011 and hiw .275 with five doubles, two triples and two home runs while driving in 17 RBI’s in 37 games.
He’s listed at 6’2 and weighs in around 230 pounds, being able to play both first and third base.
This could be the fresh that that Gomez needed and could do some good things for this Washington Nationals organization.
