Brady Hoke says Johnny Maziel would be a back up to Devin Gardner

Texas A&M quarterback brought the Aggies football program back to life leading them to a Cotton Bowl victory over the Oklahoma Sooners last year and winning a Heisman Trophy in the process. He is a polarizing player, but no one can deny his talent.

While on Dan Patrick’s radio show Michigan coach Brady Hoke was asked to finish the sentence of “If Johnny Manziel’s your quarterback … ”

“If Johnny Manziel’s our quarterback, he’d probably be playing behind Devin Gardner,” Hoke replied, via mlive.com. “Devin Gardner, I’ve got a lot of faith in.”

Patrick was trying to feel out how Hoke would handle Manziel’s antics on and off the field, and he redirected him that way in a follow up question.

“We try and educate the kids here. This has always been about the team, the team, the team,” Hoke said. “If they’re going to celebrate, and they’re going to express themselves, do it with your teammates. Do it with the other 10 guys on that field that helped you make whatever great play happen.”

That is still pretty high praise for Gardner considering Manziel’s resume and Heisman Trophy.

Manziel sat out the first half of last week’s game against to serve a suspension. Once in the game he cause quite a stir with his antics including trash talking, air autographs and money gestures.
