The Cleveland Browns will already be without their top draft choice and sixth-overall pick this year in defensive end Barkevious Mingo as he recovers from a bruised lung. But he was actually listed as a backup, and the Browns could also be without a pair of starters when they host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
Defensive end Ahtyba Rubin missed practice with a calf injury Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Dolphins.
Rubin notched more than 80 tackles in 2010 and 2011. In 13 starts in 2012, Rubin recorded 44 tackles, defended two passes and got two sacks.
Starting cornerback Buster Skrine (shoulder) is questionable for Miami. If he can’t play or is limited Sunday, it would be a challenge for the Browns. His backup, Chris Owens, has missed most of preseason with a foot injury and is working his way back into football shape.
Last year, Skrine recorded 85 tackles (72 solos) and defended 11 passes. The Browns are expecting he and Joe Haden to become one of the better CB tandems in the NFL.
