A lot of people said New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith might have been high when he proclaimed that his Knicks would win the NBA Championship this year.

And they may have been right.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowksi, the NBA is set to suspend the mouthy Smith for violating the leagues substance abuse policy.

Per Wojo:

The reigning Sixth Man of the Year award winner will reportedly be suspended for the first games of the season.

Smith reportedly tested positive for marijuana – an overly common drug used in the NBA, but one that many have figured out how to avoid detection.

This will be Smith’s third suspension that will last over three games, his previous two coming in 2006 and 2007.

Smith recently signed with a three year, $18 million dollar contract with the Knicks and I’m guessing this is probably not the way either side wanted to begin the new deal.
