New England Patriots workout QB’s on Friday
By Chris Logel
Field Yates is reporting that the New England Patriots worked out 11 players on Friday including quarterbacks B.J. Coleman and Graham Harrell.
Coleman and Harrell both were cut by the Green Bay Packers this preseason and are both looking to latch on to a backup job somewhere in the NFL. Harrell was signed by the New York Jets for 3 days before being cut again.
It is a bit surprising that New England would bother to even view these players since they are notorious for only keeping 2 quarterbacks on their roster and appeared to make that stance even more obvious by cutting Tim Tebow last week.
I believe neither of these quarterbacks have a shot at getting signed by the Patriots and this is just a case of the New England brass making sure that they leave no stone unturned. I have heard good stuff about Coleman, a product of the FCS school University of Tennessee Chattanooga, and I do believe that he will be signed to a practice squad before this season is over.
The Patriots also worked out running back Jonathan Dwyer who was recently cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dwyer was projected to contribute to the Steelers running game and was a bit of a surprise cut at last weeks deadline. Now Dwyer is left scrambling trying to latch onto a team at the last minute to make a squad.
