Philadelphia Phillies starter Cliff Lee dominates Atlanta Braves

Cliff Lee picked up his 12th win of the season after completely dominating the Atlanta Braves on Friday, giving the Philadelphia Phillies the opening win in the weekend series against the National League East leaders. All the scoring was done on just two home runs.

The Braves were held to two hits and just one run as Lee was impressive in eight innings. The lone run came from shortstop Andrelton Simmons when he hit a solo home run in the third inning. Lee also fanned 10 batters on the day.

Unfortunately, Mike Minor had to be on the losing end after pitching a very good game himself. He falls to 13-6 overall after giving up just four hits and two earned runs after seven innings, taking a shutout into the seventh inning. He struck out one less batter than Lee.

Both of the Phillies’ runs came in the seventh inning. Cody Asche had a two-run home run, just his fourth of the season, and brought in Darin Ruf after Ruf had a single.

Both teams combined for just seven hits total. Jonathan Papelbon had his 25th save of the season.
