Georgia Bulldogs star running back Todd Gurley had a big run taken away against the South Carolina Gamecocks because of the new college football helmet rule that requires play to be stopped if a helmet comes off.

Gurley was gashing the Gamecocks defense when his helmet was ripped off, but he didn’t slow down and was looking to keep running his way to the endzone. Unfortunately the play was blown dead.

Here is video of the run that ended with the early whistle:

It’s a terrible rule, but it’s all in the name of player safety. It’s just unfortunate that Gurley had a potential touchdown run taken away because of his helmet getting pulled off.
