The Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the season opener 28-2 and their offense struggled. Wide receiver Cecil Shorts insisted that cornerback Brandon Flowers couldn’t cover him and he was open repeatedly but couldn’t get the ball thrown his way.

“The film doesn’t lie. They weren’t taking me out,’’ Shorts said. “ You’ve to be patient and when the ball comes out, I’ve got to make the most of it.”

He said that he played so well that Flowers even congratulated him after the game for playing so well.

“Me and him battled all day, he won some and I won some,’’ Shorts said.

The interesting thing about this is that over 25% of the Jaguars passes went his way. Shorts was targeted 11 times but only had 3 catches for 40 yards.

“Losing is frustrating, but I am not going to sit here and say I’m frustrated,’’ Shorts said. “It’s only week one. We’re going to make it happen.’’

Shorts is remaining optimistic though.

“You’ve got to bounce back from it,’’ Shorts said. “I’m not down at all. I believe in coach Gus [Bradley]. I believe in Dave [Caldwell]. I believe in this team. We’ll keep fighting. It’s only one game. We’ve got to improve. We’ll come in Monday and watch film and work our butts off and get ready for next Sunday.’’
