Katie Couric had interviewed Lil Wayne once before, and in that interview he said he considered retiring in his early 30s. Now it seems like he has pushed that deadline back according to what he said in an interview with Katie Couric on her new syndicated show Katie.

“Whatever they want to do,” he told Couric about his retirement plans.”I don’t want to have no influence… ‘Hey you must do this, you must do that.’ Because I didn’t have that and because I didn’t have that I grew up to be exactly what I wanted to be and how I wanted to be. I want that for all of my kids… I know I’ll be ready to retire at 35 because I am so ready to retire now!”

Wayne has said that he wants to retire to spend more times with his kids. Katie asked him if he was still drinking cough syrup after a rash of medical problems.

“I was doing it too much,” Wayne opened up to Couric. “A doctor kind of told me, ‘We can’t tell you what to do. You’ve built everything around you. The only person that can tell you what to do is your mom. Everybody else around you kind of works for you… I suggest that your mom tell you to stop.’”
