Dallas Mavericks to sign center Fab Melo

The Dallas Mavericks have been hungry for size lately and will apparently be adding big man Fab Melo, at least for training camp, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

Hearing: Mavericks are planning to bring recently released young big man Fab Melo to training camp after Melo’s recent release by Memphis

As Stein mentions, Melo was recently released by the Memphis Grizzlies after he was traded by the Boston Celtics to Memphis in exchange for forward Donte Greene.

Melo was selected in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft (22nd overall) by the Celtics, though came out of Syracuse University too early as Melo looked relatively overmatched during his first season in Boston.

There’s little risk for the Mavericks considering it’s unlikely a guaranteed contract and Melo wouldn’t be anything more than a project big man who could eventually pay dividends down the road.

If Melo does make the roster (which is still by no means a guarantee), he’d likely be the last big man in the rotation, sitting behind Samuel Dalembert, Brandan Wright and DeJuan Blair.
