‘Free Loki’ Movement is gaining even more speed

Last week, I told you about a new movement taking the internet by storm known as ‘Free Loki.’ Today, it would seem as if the movement is gaining even more ground as the number of signatures continues to grow.

Honestly, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. When you have someone like Tom Hiddleston who is so wholeheartedly dedicated to the role of the villain that we all love to hate, it is obvious that there will be those that are anxious to see the villain get a movie of his own.

“We feel Loki (as portrayed by Tom Hiddleston), due to the astounding following both the character and actor have earned as a result of the Marvel films, more than warrants further exploration of his story.” the petition reads. “We believe such an endeavor would not only be profitable and successful but provide a larger view for general audiences of the incredibly complex and diverse personality a well-known villain of the Marvel universe is gifted with.” it continues.

The petition concludes with this.

“To explore this darker side of the Thor storyline would be to give credit to a compelling individual, his remarkable portrayer and an appreciative audience that feels a fierce loyalty to both in an unprecedented way. Simply put: He has an army.”

The petition on Change.org has gained an additional 2,314 signatures since our posting last week, for a total of 11,770 signatures.

Once the petition reaches 20,000 signatures, they plan to submit the plea to Marvel Entertainment.

While there is no precedent of a film company moving forward with a project based on an internet petition, one would assume that if Marvel’s next venture, Thor: The Dark World performs well at the box office, and you take into consideration that Loki has assembled quite the army in support of his glorious purpose, this may indeed be a beneficial move for Marvel.

Do you think that giving the Trickster God a movie of his own would be a beneficial move for Marvel? What storyline do you think would make the most sense should a movie be put into production?

I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.

If you want to speed things up, you can always head to Change.org and add your name to the list of members in Loki’s army.

Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World hits theaters on November 8, 2013.
