And just like that, the balloon popped.
The Chicago Bulls and forward Luol Deng have been trying to hash out a contract extension for quite some time. Unfortunately, the two sides could never come to an agreement and last night CSN Chicago reported that the two sides had ‘stalled’ on a deal.
It’s a drastic change from just a few weeks ago when the two sides appeared to be nearing a deal, but now according to Deng’s agent, the forward will not sign a contract extension with the Bulls and will enter free agency at the end of the 2013-14 season.
Per the Chicago Tribute:
“Luol has taken the position that he will definitely go through the free-agent process,” said Herb Rudoy, Deng’s Chicago-based agent.
Of course, that doesn’t mean he’ll leave Chicago, though, you never really want to take the chance of one of your premier players hitting the free agent market.
If the Bulls are confident he’s going to leave, Deng might even be traded so the Bulls can receive some type of compensation.
Either way, that sure escalated quickly.
