The Oklahoma State Cowboys football program is at the center of a Sports Illustrated investigation that was released on Monday night. The report includes multiple alleged violations from the program and university that includes money, drugs, sex and academic misconduct.
It’s a black eye for the Oklahoma State program and the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the allegations, but Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy spoke out about the report on Tuesday with a video statement.
“I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished here, both on and off the field,” said Gundy. “Our goal has always been to take young people from where their parents have gotten them and to make them better over a four or five year period. We’re very proud of that in many ways. So, until further time — and obviously the university will make that decision — there’s not any comment that we would have on the Sports Illustrated article.”
The investigation has been going on for ten months and features interviews from more than 50 former players, along with former and current members of the coaching staff.
This story won’t be going away, but it looks like Gundy will be taking it head on.
