The United States men’s national team got yet another “dos a cero” result when they took down the Mexican national squad in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday night. As the Spanish saying suggests, the United States defeated Mexico 2-0 and the win got them one step closer to a berth in the 2014 World Cup, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

United States got on the board with a beautiful header from Eddie Johnson off of a Landon Donovan corner kick that soared in to the back of the net.

To put the game away, Donovan scored a goal of his own to give the USMNT a two goal lead heading in to the final minutes.

With the win, the United States was all but guaranteed a berth in Rio, however, they first needed to await the final score of the Honduras vs. Panama World Cup qualifier. Honduras needed a win or tie over Panama to send the USA to the World Cup and that is exactly what happened.

When the final whistle blew, Honduras and Panama tied 2-2.

The win sends the United States to Brazil next year to compete in the biggest soccer tournament in the world.

As the kids say, “Merica!”
