Andrew McCutchen out of the lineup today for the Pittsburgh Pirates

Right now the Pittsburgh Pirates are sitting a game behind the first place St. Louis Cardinals.

With the playoffs approaching and the Pirates confident enough in the bats and gloves they have sitting in their dugout, manager Clint Hurdle has decided to give McCutchen a little break.

The cornerstone of this team has started 29 straight games at his position and is deserving of a night off from work. They are in a tight race for the division lead and Wild Card race as the last month of the season is slowly but surely coming to an end.

The Pirates will square off against division rival Chicago Cubs and the San Diego Padres in their next eight games. To be honest it’s pretty exciting to see a new team in the playoff hunt. Especially the Pittsburgh Pirates who haven’t had a winning season since I was in diapers.

When the Cubs’ season ends, I will definitely be pulling for Andrew McCutchen and the Pirates when it’s time to play post-season baseball. Can’t help but root against the St. Louis Cardinals.
