When season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter comes to an end, coaches Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate will fight in the co-main event of UFC 168 for the women’s bantamweight championship. Just a few weeks later, season 19 of TUF will air with two brand new coaches.

The UFC made the announcement tonight on UFC Tonight, and the season will feature to familiar foes as former world champion BJ Penn returns to mixed martial arts to face off against Frankie Edgar. Penn reportedly called UFC president Dana White to ask for the fight.

After the season, the two men will complete their trilogy inside of the octagon with a match in April of 2014.

In an interesting twist, Penn, who has fought as high as heavyweight, will make the drop to 145 pounds and hope to take care of Edgar once and for all.

For those who don’t know, Frankie Edgar is the man who ended Penn’s reign at the top of the UFC’s lightweight division when he upset him at UFC 112 in 2010. Edgar won the rematch and Penn went on to win just one of his next four fights, but he has never forgotten the loss and he is hoping at a chance of redemption.

The new season will begin in January and should promise yet another intense coaching rivalry.

This one should be fun, so stay tuned for more details about the show, including what weight classes will compete for the latest TUF crown.
