Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger finally made a move in the transfer window, a deadline day transfer of Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Özil. The team introduced and unveiled him Thursday and in his opening comments Mesut Özil channeled his inner LeBron James.
From ESPN FC:
“I would have come here without a fee, that wouldn’t be a problem. Of course I am proud of this (price tag), but the most important thing is the manager trusts me. He trusts me.
“When I talked to Arsene on the phone, he was full of respect. Me, as a player, I need the respect and that is why I came here. I don’t want to talk about Real Madrid. That topic is over. Hopefully I have many wonderful years here and win many trophies.”
That’s right, Özil wants to win “many trophies” with the Arsenal Gunners. That isn’t necessarily that hard to accomplish, they’ve been knocking on the door for a while. They haven’t won the Premier League since the 2003-04 season or the FA Cup since 2005.
They also won the FA Community shield in 2004, but since then the trophy shelves have been collecting dust. No one has had to come in and rearrange the trophies to make room for a new one. Özil wants to change that.
