Flooding in the state of Colorado has become a national news story, but there will be a relatively minor side effect to the damaging weather situation.
The Fresno State @ Colorado football game scheduled for Saturday in Boulder has been officially postponed as of Friday evening. As of this moment, there is no makeup date scheduled, but to be frank, that is not in the forefront of anyone’s minds surrounding the situation.
University of Colorado chancellor Philip DiStefano offered the following quote addressing the situation that led to the cancellation of the game:
“Even though the weather is improving, Boulder is still designated as a national emergency site. Our community is hurting. Many of our students are displaced from their homes, including many of our student-athletes. This is not an appropriate time for us to hold a game that would put pressure on the community, both in terms of security/emergency personnel, but also in diverting attention from people in need.”
As far as football is concerned, there isn’t an obvious make-up date for these two teams, and DiStefano even admitted that the game could be cancelled altogether. As the days pass and (hopefully) the weather clears in Colorado, attention can turn back to the gridiron, but until then, prayers go out to those affected.
