There were a lot of nervous fans in Buckeye nation when Ohio State starting quarterback and Heisman contender Braxton Miller was ruled out tonight due to a sprained MCL he suffered last week during a win over San Diego State.
But after just two offensive possessions, you’d never have thought Miller had left, as backup QB Kenny Guiton has already thrown a pair of touchdowns too put OSU up 14-0 early over the California Golden Bears. His first TD was to Devin Smith for a 90-yard score, and on the next offensive possession, he hit Smith once again for a 47-yard score.
Guiton, who came out against San Diego State on Saturday after Miller went down on the seventh play of the game and played like a starter in a 42-7 win, completing 19/28 passes for 152 yards, two touchdown and an interception. He also ran nine times for 83 yards. On six of the 13 drives he was in the game the Buckeyes found the end zone.
He’s clearly effective enough to keep the Buckeyes rolling while Miller heals.
