The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t play until Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, but they have already been forced to rule out two players for the AFC North rivalry game.
Rookie running back Le’Veon Bell will be out once again with his mid-foot sprain, while defensive back Cortez Allen will be forced out of action with an ankle injury. Allen has not practiced all week and should be ready to go for Week Three. As for Bell, he continues to stay on the sidelines and could miss the next few weeks before returning.
The Steelers running back is a mess, but the good news is that they have a replacement tabbed for Allen.
In nickel packages, rookie safety Shamarko Thomas will take on the slot corner job, which should be exciting. Thomas has the ability to be a big time playmaker in the NFL and it will be very important to get him playing action early on in his career.
He will be tested by the Bengals receiving corp and Andy Dalton, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Thomas was able to impress.
