Ian Rapoport is reporting that 49ers defensive tackle Ian Williams has broken his ankle in the first quarter of the game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Ian Williams is a standout for Notre Dame and just this offseason signed a new 2 year contract with the 49ers worth 3.2 million dollars with 1 million guaranteed. Glenn Dorsey is the backup that has been inserted into the lineup with the injury. Williams barely beat out Dorsey in training camp and the 49ers don’t expect to lose a step with Dorsey coming in.

The blow to Williams will obviously hurt the depth on the offensive line but Dorsey was able to come in and record a sack shortly after entering into the game so one can expect at least adequate production out of him. As long as Dorsey can take up space and occupy blockers he will allow the stellar 49ers linebacking unit to wreck havoc on the Seahawks backfield thereby doing his job.

I would expect the 49ers defense to continue to play well assuming that they don’t get any further injuries this game.
