Atlanta Braves, Washington Nationals granted clearance to Nationals Park

Updating a previous story, the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals were granted clearance to Nationals Park this afternoon, this after earlier today being told to stay away from the ballpark after there was a mass shooting at the local U.S. Navy Yard.

Both the Navy Yard and Nationals Park use the same metro station, so in addition to the situation at the Navy Yard just blocks away, D.C. officials weren’t sure if the downtown area could handle the extra ‘traffic’. It was also possible that the game could be postponed until tomorrow or Wednesday. There has been no official word from the Nationals either way, but considering we’re just hours away from the game, it’s likely to go on as scheduled.

Per David O’Brien:

#Braves told at noon they could enter the ballpark as usual this afternoon. Team bus set to leave at usual time for #Nats Park

Traffic is expected to be pretty rough considering entry points and parking lots backup to the Navy yard.

Dan Haren will take the mound for the Nationals and will be opposed by the Atlanta Braves starter, Alex Wood.
