By now, you’ve likely heard of the awful news which took place in Washington D.C. this morning where a gunman (potentially more than one) opened fire at the U.S. Navy Yard.

Nationals Park, which is just a few blocks from the activity was set to host the game between the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals this evening, but for now both teams have been told to stay away from the ballpark and the status for tonight’s game is currently uncertain.

Per Amanda Comak:

#nats have been told to stay away from the ballpark in light of the situation at the Navy Yard. No announcement on tonight’s game just yet

The U.S. Navy Yard and Nationals Park actually share the same metro stop.

First pitch was scheduled to take place at 7:05 local time, though, given the nature of the events it’s very possible Major League Baseball could attempt to play a double header tomorrow or even Wednesday considering both are night games.

Out thoughts are with those affected by the tragedy.
