Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott issued a statement on Monday that surprised no one: the referees messed up at the end of the game between the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Wisconsin Badgers. (For those who still haven’t seen the strange final fifteen seconds, check them out here.) The gaffe prevented the Badgers from kicking a potentially game-winning field goal, therefore allowing the Sun Devils to escape with a controversial 32-30 victory.

Said Scott:

This was an unusual situation to end the game. After a thorough review, we have determined that the officials fell short of the high standard in which Pac-12 games should be managed. We will continue to work with all our officials to ensure this type of situation never occurs again (ESPN).

Gary Anderson, the head coach of the Badgers, admitted in a press conference on Monday that Scott’s statement wasn’t enough to help ease the pain of the loss, but also said that he was glad the Pac-12 held their officials accountable for the error.
